Background & Job Description

Please note: This executive job post is advertised on our platform on behalf of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). We are not directly affiliated with the hiring organization but are providing this information as a service to our audience of senior-level international development and sustainable finance professionals.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) stands at the knowledge frontier for sustainable development within the UN system, serving as a critical integrator for collective action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through its Global Policy Network (GPN) and the Bureau for Policy and Programme Support (BPPS), UNDP develops cutting-edge policy and provides technical guidance to country offices worldwide. A central pillar of this work is the Sustainable Finance Hub (SFH), established to catalyze over $1 trillion in public and private investments toward the SDGs by working with governments, investors, financial institutions, and the private sector.

In this pivotal context, UNDP is supporting the groundbreaking Taskforce on Inequality and Social-related Financial Disclosures (TISFD). TISFD is a multi-stakeholder initiative—engaging investors, businesses, labor organizations, civil society, policymakers, and academics—dedicated to co-creating a global framework for corporate disclosure on inequality and social factors. Mirroring the impact of the TCFD for climate, TISFD aims to provide investors and stakeholders with comparable, decision-useful data on a company’s social impacts, risks, and opportunities, such as workforce equity, community relations, and human rights in the value chain.

The TISFD Secretariat, hosted by UNDP, is responsible for coordinating this ambitious three-year effort to develop the framework, guidance, and capacity-building resources. This role is situated at the heart of this global endeavor. The Chief of Strategy will be a key member of the TISFD Leadership Team, working directly under the Executive Director to translate the Taskforce’s ambitious vision into operational reality. This position is designed for a strategic visionary who can navigate complexity, mobilize resources, build powerful alliances, and lead a diverse, virtual team toward delivering a framework that has the potential to fundamentally reshape corporate accountability and direct capital toward a more equitable and inclusive global economy.

Chief of Strategy, TISFD – Home-Based Leadership Role in Sustainable Finance & Inequality (Apply by Sept 11, 2025)

Tasks

The Chief of Strategy will be entrusted with a portfolio of critical leadership responsibilities, including:

  • Strategic Operationalization: Provide senior leadership in the day-to-day operationalization of the TISFD Strategic Plan. Develop and oversee comprehensive project management plans to ensure all Secretariat activities are aligned, mutually reinforcing, and effectively prioritized to meet strategic objectives.
  • Adaptive Management: Lead a process of continuous testing, learning, and adaptation of the strategic plan based on feedback, stakeholder input, and evolving global dynamics to ensure the initiative remains agile and effective.
  • Resource Mobilization: In close collaboration with the Executive Director, lead the implementation of the resource mobilization strategy. Proactively engage with a portfolio of donors, philanthropic foundations, and strategic partners to secure sustainable multi-year funding for the TISFD initiative.
  • Team Leadership & Culture: Build, mentor, and lead a skilled, diverse, and high-performing Secretariat team of 4-5 FTEs. Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and excellence-driven culture within the virtual team, ensuring clear goals and professional development.
  • Engagement Strategy Leadership: Develop and own TISFD’s overarching global engagement strategy. Provide strategic oversight of its implementation to ensure robust participation from all key stakeholder groups across the private, public, and non-profit sectors.
  • Functional Integration: Ensure seamless integration and strategic alignment between the Secretariat’s core functions: engagement, communications, and technical framework development.
  • Stakeholder Governance Oversight: Provide high-level strategic guidance and oversight for TISFD’s key engagement bodies, including the Global Alliance and Regional Councils, ensuring they effectively incorporate a diverse range of global perspectives into the framework’s development.
  • Senior Relationship Building: Act as a senior representative and key relationship manager for TISFD. Build and sustain strategic alliances with C-suite executives, investors, standard-setters, government officials, and civil society leaders to build broad-based support and ensure the framework’s practical relevance.
  • Global Advocacy: Represent TISFD at high-level international fora, conferences, and private meetings to articulate its vision, build awareness of the critical importance of social disclosures, and position TISFD alongside other major frameworks like TCFD, TNFD, and ISSB.
