Role Overview

The Data Science Research Lead will modernize IRC’s research data infrastructure, ensuring high-quality, ethical, and efficient data practices. Key focus areas include:

  • Standardizing data systems for global research projects.
  • Pioneering AI/ML, geospatial, and alternative data (e.g., satellite, mobile data) applications.

Tasks & Responsibilities

1. Upgrade IRC’s Research Data Systems

  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for data capture, management, and analysis.
  • Create shared resources (e.g., electronic survey templates, dashboards, code repositories).
  • Train researchers and field staff on best practices (STATA/R, CommCare, Power BI).
  • Audit and optimize legacy datasets for reuse in new studies.

2. Deploy Cutting-Edge Data Science Methods

  • Identify frontier technologies (e.g., AI-driven data synthesis, adaptive RCTs, chatbot analytics).
  • Pilot innovative tools (e.g., satellite imagery, mobile data) in low-resource settings.
  • Build vendor partnerships for underutilized tech (e.g., AI-powered survey platforms).

3. Foster a Data-Driven Research Culture

  • Establish a community of practice for advanced analytics.

  • Fieldwork in fragile/conflict-affected contexts.
  • Proven track record in:
    • STATA/R, Python, SQL, Power BI.

    • Machine learning applications for social impact.

Skills & Competencies
