They are seeking a Technical Director for WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) Quality and Innovation to provide strategic global leadership. This fixed-term, local-position role is critical for influencing the quality and impact of WASH sector programming worldwide. The successful candidate will lead the development and quality control of evidence-based intervention packages, project models, and impact measures. The position reports directly to the Global Director of WASH and is preferred to be based in one of the following countries: Mali, Burundi, Angola, Sierra Leone, Rwanda, Ghana, or Niger (other locations where the organization is registered may also be considered).

Tasks and Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Quality Assurance:
- Set strategic priorities for the global WASH sector in alignment with the organization’s partnership strategy.
- Lead the development, updating, and review of Core Project Models and sector-wide programming guidance.
- Establish and oversee global WASH standards and indicators, ensuring they are child-focused, community-empowering, and practical for field implementation.
- Provide high-level support and quality assurance to Regional and National Offices on all WASH programming tools, documentation, and sector alignment.
Innovation & Organizational Strengthening:
- Provide thought leadership to identify evidence-based, high-impact solutions to complex WASH challenges.
- Design and manage processes to identify, vet, and pilot innovative WASH approaches from within and outside the organization.
- Define the sector’s research portfolio and publication agenda, working with evidence and learning teams to implement it.
- Foster an organizational culture that supports quality, agility, and innovation in WASH programming.
Cross-Cutting Collaboration & External Engagement:
- Champion cross-sector collaboration to integrate WASH with other key themes like health, nutrition, advocacy, and faith and development.
- Support the identification and cultivation of strategic relationships with international WASH partners, donors, and peers.
- Represent the organization in global technical WASH networks to increase learning, impact, income, and influence.
- Benchmark with peer organizations to learn best practices and ensure the organization remains at the cutting edge of WASH programming.
Accountability & Impact Measurement:
- Work with Global Field Operations to assess the quality and coverage of WASH programming across development, disaster, and conflict contexts.
- Ensure accountability to donors and beneficiaries by overseeing programming alignment with global models and standards.
Qualifications
Education and Certification:
- A Master’s degree in a relevant academic field such as International Development, Public Health, Environmental Engineering, or Water Resources Management is required.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Hydrology, Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM), or another technical field related to WASH systems design and supervision is essential.
- Certifications in project management (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2), monitoring & evaluation, or specific WASH methodologies are considered valuable assets.
Experience:
- A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in WASH sector programming in field locations is highly preferred for this senior role (the posting notes a range of 5-10 years, but the seniority of the responsibilities indicates a need for extensive experience).
- Proven experience in overseeing or providing high-level technical support to multi-country programmes.
