This role is central to nurturing this global community of over 250 philanthropists, facilitating connections, and deepening their engagement to drive ambitious giving on urgent worldwide issues.

The Senior Program Officer (SPO) will report to the Senior Manager, Giving Partnerships, and will serve as a senior relationship manager. This position is strategic, focusing on building trust and acting as a thought partner to a portfolio of Giving Pledge signatories, helping to shape their philanthropic journeys and maximize their impact.

A key highlight of this position is its flexibility. While the strong preference is for a candidate who can work from the foundation’s offices in Seattle, WA, the organization is open to considering a qualified candidate who would work remotely from a US state. This opens the opportunity to a wider pool of talent across the country.

Tasks and Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary senior relationship manager for a designated portfolio of ultra-high-net-worth individuals and families who have signed The Giving Pledge.
  • Develop and execute individualized engagement strategies for each partner, aligned with their philanthropic goals and designed to increase the scale and impact of their giving over time.
  • Build deep, trusted, long-term relationships, providing strategic thought partnership, facilitating connections with peers and experts, and inspiring more ambitious philanthropic action.
  • Provide strategic input to the wider team on methods to deepen partnerships, influence giving behaviors, and activate donors around critical global issues and key moments.
  • Ensure all communication with partners is of the highest quality, timely, and reflects the foundation’s values, exercising utmost discretion and confidentiality.
  • Conduct research on current partners, draft sophisticated correspondence, and lead the development of meeting agendas and briefs that strategically advance portfolio goals.
  • Manage the portfolio with excellence, utilizing Salesforce for tracking interactions, data entry, report creation, and relationship management.
  • Contribute to shaping the strategic direction of The Giving Pledge and key initiatives aimed at expanding the community’s global reach and influence.
  • Collaborate across the Philanthropic Partnerships team and the broader foundation to leverage curated events, learning opportunities, and peer-to-peer exchanges.
  • Be available to travel domestically and potentially internationally, up to 35% of the time.

Qualifications

Education and Certification:

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required. An advanced degree in a related field such as Business, Nonprofit Management, or Public Policy is a plus.

Experience:

  • A minimum of seven years of progressive work experience in a relevant role. Ideal backgrounds include development offices within large nonprofits or universities, advisory firms serving high-net-worth clients, or similar relationship management positions involving high-level partners.
  • A proven and demonstrable track record in sophisticated relationship management, with expertise in building trust and exercising high levels of discretion and judgment when handling confidential information.
  • Experience generating results in high-pressure environments, executing complex, time-sensitive projects that depend on coordination with multiple stakeholders.
  • Deep expertise in philanthropy and a strong understanding of emerging trends relevant to ultra-high-net-worth audiences.
  • Experience working in a global context with high cultural sensitivity and the ability to navigate diverse perspectives.
  • Strong technical skills, with experience learning and utilizing CRM systems like Salesforce for effective portfolio management and reporting.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to adapt messaging for different audiences, from philanthropists to internal executives.
  • Strong time management, systematic thinking, and impeccable attention to detail, with the confidence to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

Additional Information

Compensation and Salary:
The foundation offers a competitive salary structure. The base salary range for this role is $169,700 to $254,500 USD. For candidates based in high-wage markets like Seattle, WA, and Washington D.C., the range is adjusted to $185,000 to $277,400 USD. As a mission-driven organization, new hire salaries are typically set between the range minimum and the midpoint, based on a candidate’s job-related skills, experience, and expertise.

Work Location Flexibility:
This role offers significant location flexibility. The foundation’s preference is for the candidate to be based in Seattle, WA. However, they are open to remote work for a highly qualified candidate residing in any US state where the foundation is registered to employ remote staff.
