Tasks

The International TB/HIV Consultant is typically expected to perform the following tasks:

Technical & Programme Support

  • Provide technical advice on TB and HIV prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and care
  • Support integration of TB and HIV services within national health systems
  • Review and strengthen national TB/HIV strategies, guidelines, and operational plans

Policy & Strategic Guidance

  • Support alignment of national policies with WHO norms and standards
  • Contribute to development or revision of policies, guidelines, and protocols
  • Advise on implementation of the End TB Strategy and HIV response frameworks

Monitoring, Evaluation & Data Use

  • Support analysis of TB/HIV surveillance and programme data
  • Strengthen monitoring and reporting systems
  • Support evidence-based decision-making using epidemiological data

Capacity Building & Coordination

  • Support training and mentoring of national programme staff
  • Coordinate with government counterparts, donors, and implementing partners
  • Participate in technical meetings, reviews, and joint missions

Reporting

  • Prepare technical reports, mission summaries, and recommendations
  • Contribute to donor and internal WHO reporting requirements

Qualifications

Education and Certification

Candidates for this consultancy typically possess:

  • An advanced university degree (Master’s or PhD) in:
    • Public Health
    • Medicine
    • Epidemiology
    • Infectious Diseases
    • Health Sciences or a related field

Specialized training in TB, HIV, or communicable disease control is highly desirable.


Experience

Successful candidates usually demonstrate:

  • At least 7–10 years of relevant professional experience in TB and/or HIV programmes
  • Proven experience working in international or low- and middle-income country settings
  • Experience collaborating with governments, UN agencies, or global health partners
